I Made A Thing

So, during this sabbatical, I’ve been doing some fun stuff that I don’t usually get the opportunity to do.

My amazing wife has been working hard to get her Pharmacy Technician certificate. The other day, she came home with a stack of 10 pages of tables with drug names. She needed to memorize the generic and brand names (and their pronunciations).

I thought that an app for her phone would be a much more useful solution, so I built one. I had a quick prototype ready in a couple of hours and after three days, I had most of the features done.

You can find it at WhatTheDrug.stevestarck.me. (it also works in your desktop browser)

Give it a shot and let me know how you like it!

Features List

quiz mode - test yourself on whether you know the pronunciation and the brand name of the generic drug. Tap the left side button to toggle it on and off.

search - tap the right side button to search for a specific drug. As you type the list will filter. Tap the drug you want to see. Search finds both brand and generic names that match.

swipe to previous or next card - you can swipe left and right on the screen to go to the previous or next "card"

pronounce it - tapping on the top or the bottom of the card causes the app to speak the generic or the brand name of the drug.

scheduled drug notification - If the drug is in a scheduled class, it will show in a red bubble.

offline support - If you add the app to your home screen, it will work when you are offline.
